Dear Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

block the bullet

march because we miss you

do you have friends?

how's heaven?

ice-cream in heaven

can i ask you something?

they are still fighting

bring peace to my cousins

For Martin Luther King's birthday, my 2nd graders wrote letters to our beloved Civil Rights leader. It's amazing to see how my kids are so drawn to messages of equality and social justice. Their letters are so innocent, yet a lot of them have such a realistic view of what's going on in their community and around the world.

I know this isn't food related, but I thought you'd enjoy some 2nd grade literature as we head into MLK weekend. Peace!

Awwww....

And now I can't get the somewhat funny image of MLK dodging bullets a la Matrix out of my head.

I always crack up when you post your students' work. It's true what they say "Kids say the darndest things!"

Your kids must love ice cream! hehe

Aw, some of the things they say just pull my heartstrings.

Those letters are so cute! They /almost/ make me want to have kids. Well, your post is somewhat food related still with all the ice cream questions.

What is with the "is there ice cream in heaven" question?!?! Guess if there isn't, kids aren't interested in going.

These are hilarious!

h.c. haha. I love my kids' Matrix mentality.

Elmomonster...it's so true. They are so honest. The days I come in tired are pretty harsh. "Oooh Miss. You don't look that great today."

Christine...yes they loooooove ice cream. I think that's all they're thinking about when it comes to the afterlife.

Jadedone...haha. They "almost" make me want to have kids too.

Dear EDNBM,
How old are you? You sound like a 2nd grader.
MLK

Thanks OFG!

Anonymom...moms are angels until they start watching Die Hard.

Tokyoastrogirl...yea...my kids told me they only want to go where there's ice cream. Deep thoughts. Deep thoughts.
