A New Addiction: A Burger at Yuca's

Yuca's on Hillhurst has become one of our favorite afterwork treats. Yes, their cochinita pibil and asada tacos and burritos are great. But we have been hooked on Yuca's machaca burritos.

The Yuca's machaca burrito, an elegant burrito filled with seasoned braised beef, cooked until tender and perfectly folded in a soft velvety flour tortilla is so mouthwatering, so simply amazing. Most people will complain about the size of Yuca's burritos. I think they're perfect for me. It's all quality at Yuca's. Their James Beard Award truly says so.

A couple of weeks ago, Susan from Immeatchu told us that she loved Yuca's as well, especially their cheeseburgers. "There is just something crazy delicious about their super thin, crisped-around-the-edges beef patty, in a ubiquitous hamburger bun, with a sprinkling of just classic condiments. So frickin good."

Yes, Susan, they are so frickin good. There's something so amazing about burgers from a Mexican joint. The carne asada by-product left on the grill does wonders to a simple meat patty.

As one of the stops on the first ever food marathon in 1996, Yuca's will always hold a place in my heart.

Thanks for the report. I live a few blocks away from Yuca's and eat their tacos about once a week--never done the burger though--next time...

I love the cheeseburger photo. I'm going to print it out and use it for my food calendar. mmm... yuca's.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumy Yuca's. If only they were open a bit later, I'd be taking it home for dinner three nights a week.

ooh. I'm *ON* the cheeseburger!

file under "weird cravings", but I've been in search of a hamburger like the ones I'd get after school at the local Kresge's dimestore (midwest version of Woolworth's, kinda) for forever. and I'm guessing that it was the other stuff they made on that grill that made them special. I know that the other things that Yuca's makes on their grill are considerably different, but I'm still hopin'... :)

Susan...girl, I'm all about the simple old school burger. This one at Yuca's is sufficient. That freegin patty, so packed with flavor and carne asada residue. I went twice last week. Once after finishing this post, and again when my brother rolled into town. Thanks for the rec girl!

Food Marathon...Yuca's has a place in my heart too. How can you not love that tiny little shack that just doesn't seem to belong on trendy Hillhurst? Socorra is great too...I feel like I'm coming home to mama whenever I go to Yuca's.

Erin...just don't expect an exceptional graded patty. It's all about flavor at Yuca's. It's sooo good!

EDNBM...calendar. Since when were you in the calendar business? Must of been when we went to the 99cent store and you asked for the tractor calendar huh?

TAG...it'd be a health hazard if Yuca's was open late. For me it's like, thank God they're not open late.

Anna...after a couple more Yuca hits, I'm throwing myself into rehab. Definitely an old school hamburger. You'll love it.

genius! that is the answer to why all my favorite burgers come from mexican holes in the wall. i would suggest patra's (sunset in echo park) as another great example, but frankly, that burger looks so good i wouldn't fault you for sticking to yuca's
