D and I are constantly reminded to check out Kike's Tacos everytime we pass by this make-shift parking lot taqueria on our way home from Little Tokyo. Kike's Tacos is located on the corner of Beaudry and 2nd Street which lies at the footsteps of LA's beautiful downtown skyline. The amazing view, Kike's picnic table setup, a complete salsa bar, a constant hungry taco crowd, and $1 tacos delivers nothing but romantic evenings for hungry taco monsters.
After a long week at work with my kids and his long week at work with ads, D and I finally decided to make a date with Kike's. At the last minute, Rameniac and his wife joined us for our Friday night taco date.
The tacos over at Kike's are ok, good enough to enjoy with our free nightscape. I ended up ordering an asada, pastor, and chorizo taco. My asada was the best out of the three with it's simple cuts of nicely marinated asada over a freshly toasted tortilla. My al pastor was a bit to cinammon"y" for me. I actually don't remember much of my pastor taco. The chorizo was far from what I was expecting in a taco. Kike uses regular breakfast links for their chorizo and although it wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I was expecting.
Kike's Tacos has a great taco scene. Hope for a spot at their one table. Or eat on the hood of your car. Wherever you eat, enjoy LA taco nights. In my opinion, they're simply the best way to enjoy Los Angeles.

*I forgot to ask what time Kike's is out there on the corner parking lot. But from what I remember, it seems like a 8pm-2am nighttime joint.

it looks like it transcends its unfortunate name, from the crowd gathered. there's one like this (with tables and all) on York in Highland Park (I know, surprise, surprise!) just east of Galco's, if I remember correctly. nighttime only, and I've only seen it on Sat. night, but haven't checked during the week. but again, the crowd there makes me think I need to go soon... :)
even though there's a big and friendly crowd, these were the worst tacos i've ever had in LA. if you are looking for a taco table close to this area, you might try the one at alvarado and kent (between the 101 and sunset).
Anna...I've gotto admit, as much as I love the trucks, make-shift taco joints from portable picnic tables is just my style. So cozy! Let me know if you ever hit up that Highland Park joint. Highland Park is my next on my taco track...well...once I have some free time!
Themirthmobile...the worst in LA? Kike's ain't the best...but I wouldn't say they're the worst. I've had worse (Chabelita's!!! BAAAAH!). We'll check out the Alvarado and Kent joint soon. But for now we'll settle for Tacos Ariza's (Echo Park) and El Gran on Santa Monica/Vermont for late late night eats. Thanks for visiting.
Al pastor is awesome. I tried it for the first time the other day.
